3 Benefits Of Air-Conditioning Repair And Maintenance

Floyd Carroll

If your air-conditioning system hasn't been serviced in a while, it may need some good repairs and/or maintenance. A poorly maintained air-conditioning system quickly becomes a financial drain instead of a benefit. If you would like to know more, check out these three benefits of air-conditioning repair and maintenance.

1. Boosted Efficiency

The leading reason to repair, service, and maintain your entire HVAC system is efficiency. As a system gets old, worn, and dirty, it becomes less efficient, which is reflected on your energy bills. If your energy bills have suddenly been rising, your system may be losing efficiency.

If the system is particularly, old, however, it may be best to repair it. Older systems may still use old Freon, which is both dangerous for the environment and illegal. In addition, newer models are usually more energy efficient with great SEER ratings.

Don't forget to request duct inspections. Over time, ducts can become loose or develop damage. This allows a lot of air to escape into the walls, ceilings, basement, attic, and crawlspace. In turn, the system is forced to waste more power to adequately cool the home.

2. Improved Effectiveness

Besides efficiency, you want a system that is incredibly effective. Force-air heating and cooling should quickly and effectively fully cool or heat the entire home evenly. If your system can't cool the house enough, or you have hot spots, your system may be less effective.

Naturally, good repairs and maintenance can improve the system's effectiveness. Maintenance and repairs may include:

  • Cleaning the system
  • Repairing damaged electrical parts
  • Adding coolant
  • Lubricating moving parts
  • Tightening bolts and screws

Again, do not neglect the ducts. If ducts are damaged or clogged with debris, they can't deliver as much cooled air as compared to a well-maintained and cleaned system. In rare cases, your system may simply not be large enough, and upgrading can drastically help.

3. Better Indoor Air-Quality

All that debris in the system, filter, and ducts can get into your indoor air, causing allergies, itchy eyes, itchy skin, etc. For people with breathing complications, it may trigger an asthma attack or exacerbate COPD. If the system has developed mold, it may even spread mold spores throughout the air.

In many cases, a good cleaning can boost indoor air quality. However, if you want to get a new system, you can boost indoor air quality further by adding UV filters, purification, dehumidifiers, or humidifiers.

If you are sick of your rising energy bills and/or poor indoor air quality, it may be time to blame your air conditioning system. If you would like to know more about air conditioning repair, maintenance, and replacement, contact an HVAC contractor today.
